6 reasons why Christmas is a good time to job search

We are all counting down the sleeps to Christmas Day. Tinsel is everywhere, and the tree is up, you’ve wrapped your presents. But before the silly seasons kicks in, let me tell you why you should keep your job search going.

6 reasons why Christmas is a good time to job search

Recruiting and hiring don’t stop during the Christmas season. Employers hire when they need to. Christmas might be the only time of year that they can dedicate to hiring new employees.

Here are 6 reasons why you should not park your job search until after the New Year, keep your job search active.

1. Employers hire all year round

Have a look at our website, we have plenty of jobs up there right now, because employers are hiring RIGHT NOW. Even if you take a look at other job boards like Indeed, you’ll see that there are plenty of opportunities out there.

2. Less competition

Music to any job seekers ears! Fewer people are applying for jobs right now because they think no one is hiring. How good is that! It’s time to multi-task. Find a way to enjoy the festive fun and keep your job search going. With less CVs submitted to employers you have a better chance of making the shortlist. And that means that you could find yourself being interviewed for a job you may not have had the opportunity to interview for at a busier time of the year.

3. Networking time

T’is the season to be networking! There are so many social events on right now, some of them are family, friends and some of them are excellent business networking opportunities. This is no time to be a wallflower, get out there, and get talking to people. You might get the inside scoop on who is looking to hire someone with your skills! Create a little vCard on your phone that you can easily email or text to people you might along the way.

4. New Year, New Job

We all hear the “New Year, New Me” from friend or family member. Every. Year. But before you roll your eyes, January is the perfect time of year for a fresh start. It’s a great time of year to get to know your team, everyone is full of the festive feels and are more welcoming to a new person joining. But even more so, what is better than starting the New Year with a new job.

5. Flexible start date

Typically, you have to give about 2-4 weeks notice at your previous job. That’s standard. If you start in the festive season, you might be able to get a bit more wiggle room on your start date. An extra week or two off would be perfect if you want to go off on a winter holiday or spend more time with the kids. Either way, you can try to negotiate a later start date.

6. New Year, New work wardrobe!

Ok, this one sounds a bit silly. But the sales are on. Shopping for a new work wardrobe is always great fun. And with great sales on it would only be wrong not to indulge. If you haven’t quite locked down the job you want, pick up a new interview outfit. #treatyoself
