Occupational Therapist

On behalf of our client in public health, we are seeking a motivated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join a Primary Care multidisciplinary team based in Mountbellew, Co.Galway. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, person-centred occupational therapy services to individuals across the lifespan within a community setting. The role involves working collaboratively with service users, families, carers, and healthcare professionals to promote independence, function, and participation in daily life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out comprehensive occupational therapy assessments for individuals presenting with physical, sensory, cognitive, or psychosocial difficulties.
  • Develop, implement, and review individualised, goal-focused intervention plans in collaboration with service users and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide evidence-based interventions to support improved functional ability, independence in activities of daily living, and community participation.
  • Assess for, recommend, and facilitate provision of assistive equipment, aids, and environmental adaptations to support safe and independent living.
  • Work closely with GPs, public health nurses, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, and other members of the Primary Care team to ensure coordinated care.
  • Provide education, advice, and training to service users, families, carers, and relevant stakeholders to support ongoing therapeutic goals.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical records in line with organisational policies and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case discussions, and service development initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of community-based occupational therapy services.

Essential Requirements

  • A recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant professional regulatory body.
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy practice within a Primary Care or community healthcare setting in Ireland.
  • Strong understanding of assessment, intervention, and rehabilitation approaches across a broad range of conditions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and function effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • A full clean driving licence and access to transport may be required.
